Climate-proof garden with underground rainwater tank

Laying out climate-controlled garden with underground rainwater tank Leiden.
After the house was renovated, the entire garden had to be recreated.

There is a considerable difference in height in the garden. This provides a good opportunity to place the rainwater tank under the terrace.

The garden will be realised in 2 phases. Phase 1 is the construction of the terrace with the retaining wall and pergola. A 3000 litre rainwater tank is installed under the terrace. A pump and suction pipe ensure effortless watering of the garden in drier periods.

The terrace is raised and the retaining wall provides a sturdy and attractive solution to the difference in height. The paving is a combination of anthracite tiles and baked clinkers. There is enough space to sit and the large pergola provides shadow.

Phase 2 is the landscaping of the garden. The garden design and planting plan were made by Annemarie Boot of Bootanica  (https://bootanica.nl/).

The garden's design is climate-proof with a wadi and ponds. Water has been given an important role in the garden. The rain pipes from the house are connected to the rainwater tank. When the tank is full, the water runs through an infiltration pipe to the wadi. Here, the rainwater can run freely into the soil.

The garden is arranged in a green way. Water and greenery are important in a living, climate-resistant garden.

By using the existing materials, a sustainable garden has been created.
